The president of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Muhamud, says his county will again offer amnesty to Al-Shabab fighters who denounce the terrorist organisation. Speaking earlier this week, he said the amnesty would run from the 1st of November through December 31.
So far, more than 700 fighters have received amnesty and the president is calling on parents to admonish their children to take advantage of the pardon. The latest offer of amnesty comes as allied forces launch a nationwide offensive to eliminate Al-Shabab from Africa’s longest coastline. The effort is named Operation Indian Ocean.
