10.    Phyno.
                    Real name, Azubuike Chibuzor Nelson, best known by stage name Phyno. He was born on the 9th of October, 1986 in Enugu State, Eastern Nigeria. His interest in music dates back to his secondary school days. He studied Public Administration at the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu state. He started rapping in 2010 and dropped banging singles until he released his first album in 2012, titled 'No Guts No Glory'. Phyno is well renowned for his exceptional style of rapping in the Igbo language. His smashing hits include, 'Ghost Mode featuring well renowned rapper, Olamide', 'Man of the Year', 'Shut Down' and 'Alobam'. He has featured A-list artists like M.I, P. Square, Omawumi, Olamide and Flavour. In 2013, he won the 'Headies Award' for 'Best Rap Single' and in 2014, he won the 'City People Entertainment Award' for 'Rap Artist of  the Year'. He is widely known as the ambassador of rap music in the Igbo language.




9.    Vector.
                    Real name, Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, best known by stage name, 'Vector Tha Viper'. He was born in the Ogun state Nigeria and attended St Gregory's College in Lagos, Nigeria. He began his Hip-Hop journey in 1994 at school social events. In 1999, he formed a duo called, 'Badder Boiz' and they started writing and performing at showcases in the same year. However, the group separated in 1994, due to 'irreconcilable differences'. In 2008, he graduated from the University of Lagos state with a Bachelors degree in philosophy. He realised his official album, 'State of Surprise' in february 2010, with his second album titled 'The Second Coming' in 2012. He has featured A-list artists like 2face, 9ice and Mavado. In 2012, he won The Headies Award for Best Rap Single and also won the award for the Best Rap Act at the Nigerian Entertainment Award (NEA) 2012. His rap style is often compared to that of African American rapper Jay Z.








8.    Terry Tha Rapman.
                                        Real name, Terry Madaki, was born on the 28th of January 1976 in the Nigerian state of Nassarawa. He grew up in Kaduna, Nigeria and attended the federal polytechnic in the same state. His music career dates back to 1991, in secondary school, at shows and at bonfire events. He was formerly known as 'Terrific' but changed his name to 'Tha Rapman' when he hooked up with music group, 'The Ciroc City Click' in 1995. He is undoubtedly a fantastic lyricist who delivers his bars in a smooth but provocative manner. He is the C.E.O and founder of Boyz are not smiling'. His smashing hit 'Boys Are Not Smiling', left the entire state of Nigeria 'turnt up' for a while. He has featured A-list artists like 2face, Mode9, e.t.c






7.    Ill Bliss a.k.a 'Oga Boss'
                                              Real name, Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor. He was born and raised in the eastern part of Nigeria, Enugu. He has received many awards, the most notable being the Soundcity Award 2008 for the 'Best Hip-Hop Video' for hit song 'You Go Wound O' which was presented to him by African American Hip-Hop living legend, Nas.  Nas even compared him to the legendary Notorious B.I.G. Shortly after his award, he realised his debut album 'Dat Ibo Boy'. He has featured artists like Chidinma, Terry G, Tha Suspekt e.t.c. He was nominated for The Headies 'Hip-Hop World Revelation of the Year'.




6.   Ice Prince.
                       Real name, Panshak Zamani. He was born on the 30th of October 1986 in Minna, Niger state Nigeria. He moved to Jos at the age of 2 with his parents. He rose to fame with his hit song 'Oleku' featuring popular Nigerian singer Brymo, which dropped in 2010. His rap career started in 1998, with the young artist writing rap and performing at school events. In 2004 he connected with M.I and Jesse Jagz. He won the Hennessy Artistry Club Tour Awards in 2009. His achievements include one BET Award, one Ghana Music Awards and three Headies Awards. He released his debut album, 'Everybody Love Ice Prince' in 2011. He has featured A-list artists like M.I, Jesse Jagz, EldeeNaeto C, Gyptian, French Montana and Sarkodie. He has released two albums namely; 'Everybody Loves Ice Prince' 2011 and 'Fire of Zamani' 2013.





5.    Sauce kid a.k.a Sinzu.
                                     Real name, Babalola Falemi, hails from Lagos State Nigeria. After secondary school in Nigeria, he moved to the United State where he found his passion for music. He made his 'come back' to the Nigerian music scene in 2005 with hit song 'Omoge Wa Jo' featuring Nigerian music legend Mike Okri. The video of the song dropped in 2006 and it won his a place in the Chanel O Awards of the same year. His first album 'African American' dropped on the 30th of July, 2010. His phenomenal rap style can be compared to American rapper Nas, although he is not as 'deep' as Nas. In 2009, he signed record deal with the very well known Storm Records. He has dropped hit songs like , 'Sanboribobo', and 'Carolina' feturing the well renowned singer Davido. He has worked with the like of music legend Mike Okri, 9ice, Banky W and Davido.



                             

4.   Jesse Jagz.
                        Real name, Jesse Garba Abaga, hails from Takum, Taraba state, Nigeria. He was born in Jos, on the 10th of August 1984 and younger brother to Jude Abaga currently known as M.I. He is currently the C.E.O of Jagz nation. He grew up in Jos, Plateau state, in a music filled environment. His parents exposed him to the church drum sets and choir at the age of 7. His incredibility can be seen in his rap style and beats production. He has made three albums titled 'Jag of all tradez', 'Jagz nation vol.1' 'Jagz nation vol.2' and also won Best Producer of the Year, Producer of the Year, Future awards 2010 and Splurge Magazine's Best Rap Single 2008. He is a former member of the famous and well renowned record label Chocolate City, but left in 2013 to run his own record label, Jagz Nation. He has featured A-list artists like M.I, Ice prince, Wizkid and Brymo.




3.    M.I (Mr Incredible)
                                 Real name, Jude Abaga, hails from Takum, Taraba state, Nigeria. He was born in Jos, on the 4th of october 1981. He rose to prominence in 2008 with his song titled 'Crowd Mentality'. He made his mark in the Nigerian music scene with the release of his first album 'Talk About It' which was released in 2008. M.I's contribution to Nigerian music cannot ever be overstated. He's has been described by his fans as Nigeria's HipHop Messiah. Y'all would agree with me that he did a lot to bring the Northern presence to to the Nigerian music industry. M.I has featured various A-list artists like, Don Jazzy, D'banj, Naeto C, Ice prince e.t.c. He has won over 10 awards from MTV Africa Music Awards for 'Best Rap Album' 2009 to Malaysian African Entertainment Awards for 'Musician of the Year' 2010.




2.    DA GRIN.
                         Real name, Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, hails from Ogun state, born 21st of October, 1987, passed away on 22 April 2012. Its no surprise that he made this list. With his hit single 'PON PON PON', Da Grin's HipHop style was truly African. He paved the way for the incorporation of Africanism into HipHop. In 2010 he was nominated by Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) for 'Best Album'. He also featured A-lists artist like M.I and Omawumi. The news of his death burdened not only the Nigerian HipHop scene, but Nigeria as a whole, it basically brought Nigeria to a stand still. In April 2011, a film on his life, titled Ghetto Dreamz was released. Da Grin a.k.a Omoita a.k.a Barack O' Grin's legacy lives on!!!



1.    MODE 9.                                                                                                                                                                     Our number one spot goes to none other than rapper Mode 9. Real name, Babatunde Olusegun Adewale, born in London on 14th of June, 1975. Dropped his first mix-tape in 2004, titled MALCOLM IX. In 2006, Mode 9 won 3 HipHop World Awards and 3 Channel O Music Video Awards. We are all familiar with his hit song 'Cry' in which he featured the very talented singer, Nneka. Y'all gotta admit it...this rapper is exceptional!!! He has featured A-list artists like 2face, Nneka, Terry Tha Rap Man, e.t.c. So far, he has six albums to his name, with the first one titled 'E' Pluribus Unum' Latin for "One Amongst Many' which dropped in 2006 and was declared one of the best Hip-Hop Albums to come out of AfricaModenine known for his sick wordplay and inimitable lyricism (7 Time Lyricist on the Roll Award Winner) has spat, alongside some of the finest emcees , Guru of Gangstarr. In 2005 he opened for Akon in Port Harcourt in Nigeria while with Junior Reid, Kanye West, T-Pain, LL Cool J, Nas, Talib Kweli and Akon again in 2007. In 2008 Modenine set up Redeye Muzik an Indie Label and released 2 Classic albums, 'The Paradigm Shift' and 'DaVinci Mode'.








Some other rappers that we believe deserve some credit include, Naeto C, Rugged man, Eldee, Overdose, Sasha, Blaise, and Ikechukwu.
